Glitching
We looked at Glitching as an artistic process today. All images in digital or analogue format are all made up of data. Especially relevant is digital images as they are made up of code. The code is complex and we can manipulate or remove elements of this code to create aesthetically pleasing images.
Glitch art has become popular with the rise of the internet. However, the analogue version of manipulating images has been around a long time. With digital glitching, it was created by accident by coders. The appearance of images which have been manipulated in this way give the image a subversive and individual look. This style is not something you would expect to see in an art gallery-this therefore gives it a niche away from the mainstream. It is quite easy also to create images using glitching software. An app called Glitch Tool means it can be done on a mobile phone.
Due to the lack of expense and quite easy to master, this makes it accessible and egalitarian for anybody wanting to create images. The fact images can be posted online or on blogs makes it accessible to thousands and exposure for the "artists"
Therefore, as an art form, I see glitching as a positive style that due to its accessibility and the fact it hasn't been embraced by the mainstream art establishment is positive.
