File formats and non destructive workflow

On reading this section on different file formats, I learned that file formats can be corrupted on line by several ways. If an image is "saved as" multiple times, this can lead to the file becoming corrupted.

Also, I leaned the different file formats such as RAW, JPEG, PSD and TIFF. RAW files require more memory and expertise to edit due to the higher tonal range in colours used by the file. JPEG is the most popular file type as it is a small file type. It also uses "lossy compression" meaning it is open to corruption as data is lost.

The use of different file types is important and dependent on how much detail and quality you are trying to convey to your audience. If you want a high standard of work-RAW would be your file choice. However, if this is as not as important and file size is a constraint, then JPEG would be an ideal alternative.
